Fred Beard
“Photography has been a love of mine for a long time; in fact I have been passionate about photography and images since I was a small child. I feel a deep emotion when looking at photos and consider emotion as the key factor when it comes to creating images. In all cases, whether I’m looking at a portrait, a landscape or an everyday situation, the image needs to convey meaning, be suggestive and to raise questions within me. My goal is to convey these feelings through my own work. I could rattle off a list of photographic milestones dating back to my childhood, but I consider 2005 to be the beginning of my photographic life. This was the year I decided to start devoting myself to photography, started publishing compositionally striking images on the internet and participating in photography forums. During this time I whet my appetite for photography by following the work of exceptional photographers, such as Andrej Dragan and his amazing photo editing and post-production work, the renowned travel photographer Martin Parr - famed for his innovative imagery and approach to social documentary, as well as Peter Beard (no relation), famous for his astonishing photographs of Africa.”

Isaline van der Straten
Isaline likes to summarize her photographic philisophy two quotes of famous artists:
“En photographie, ce n’est pas le photographe qui est important” [Yann Arthus-Bertrand]
“Photography is a brief complicity between foresight and chance” [John Stuart Mill]

Virginie Breydel
Virginie was born in 1983 in Brussels. She studied science of communication at FUSL then UCL. Went to Paris for her erasmus, where she studied cinema. Works since 2006 as executive manager at Climax Films, a production company in Brussels.

Gregory de Harlez
“My passion for photography began when I was around 10. My godmother offered me a camera because my family and I were taking a trip to Africa. It is there that I took my first shot. Since then I have lived and studied abroad for a long time. All those experiences gave me the opportunity and the envy to discover the world and its different cultures. The beauty in this world lies in the fact that everyone is different, that the nature in one country is not the same as the nature in another, that different parts of the world have different sets of behavior. My work only relates to those differences.”

Paul Bulteel selected for Canvas Collection
The works of Paul Bulteel, one of our new artists, has been selected for the prestigious ‘Canvas Collectie / Collection RTBF’. Congratulations Paul!
Who is Paul Bulteel?
Paul Bulteel is a street photographer, finding his images by traveling and strolling around, without any attempt to mise en scene. Most of his photowork deals with the interaction between people and our wider environment.
“We all are often anonymous figurants in the public space, acting in a variety of scenes. Scenes that can either be majestic or ordinary. And certainly in our urban environment the scenery is generally imposed on us, not chosen. Therefore our relation with that scenery can be sometimes harmonious, sometimes quite uneasy.”
Paul’s two photo books “Figurants” and “boxed” bring his personal photographic view on this relation. Paul recently won the silver award of the Photo contest organized by the international art centre of deSingel in Antwerp, and has been selected for PhotoView 2012 and for De Canvascollectie / La Collection RTBF 2012.
More of his photography can be found on www.paulbulteel.eu
We are very happy to announce that in 2011 we collected 940 EUR for the local projects we support.
We want to say a big ‘thank you’ to all our customers who made this possible. Thanks to you, 65 m² of land was bought on which 65 trees were planted. Thanks to you, Harmonie could finance its free Art Magazine. And thanks to you, children with a troubled youth can enjoy their childhood with a bigger smile!
